There isn't really a difference. If you buy the S without the alloy wheels, the wheel covers are different. The taillights might be different but I haven't seen an '03 up close. Other than that, they are basically the same. Are you aware that the S has no performance upgrades over the basic Corolla? It has all the same stuff except they put a mild ground effects kit on it and foglights. Think of it as a Corolla with a Sport Appearance Pkg. It just looks sporty. All show and no go. It's still a good car, but if you want "go" added to the equation, you have to look at the XRS.
