ToyotaTacoma: TRD? SR5? 4x4 or 4x2? ?

OK, I love toyota but the 19 combinations of truck packages they offer is capitalism run amock. Can anyone explain to me what the difference is in a tacoma 4x4 without TRD vs. with? I don't know that I need an actual 4x4-- mostly i need more clearance and all the 4x2 tacomas i've seen are ghetto low to the ground. But maybe not true with TRD? Maybe 4x2 TRD (if it exists) has the extra clearance but is cheaper than actual 4WD? Can anyone explain?? And what the hell does SR5 mean? Is that just what they call the 6 cyl engine? And what is prerunner?? Not even the salesman could explain all the differences to me.

TRD is Toyota's tuning division, it means TOYOTA RACING DEVELOPMENT. in this case, in a toyota truck the TRD off road package just adds stiffer shocks, and TRD BADGING on the truck. a Prerunner is a trim level. And SR5 is a trim level too but does not apply to the tacoma. you can get the tacoma w. TRD and just 4X2 or you can get it 4X4 w/ TRD. if you really need a 4 wheel drive just stick with the Tacoma 4X4 w/o the TRD package it really hurts the ride.

I own a 2007 4x2 prerunner TRD. These trucks usually have a 6cylinder engine and do have a lot of clearance, in fact you would probably mistake it for a 4x4. My understanding of the TRD is if you get stuck for instance like mud you can push the button inside the truck which will allow both of your rear wheels to turn and help you to get out the mud.

TRD-Toyota Racing Developement , parts to upgrade your truck for a serious more powerful type of engine like adding a Supercharge.SR5 is for regular 6cylinder whether 4x4 or 4x2.Prerunner is a type of pickup with or without extra cab,where the back is expose with no enclosure. If I hear Tacoma, I think about toyota pick-up trucks
