I'm not perfectly clear on the question. If you mean pinging and popping, that is not typical unless you have bad gas. If you mean burning up rings on the pistons, that also is not very likely. But I can tell you that running a car at or close to E is not healthy for your car. Your gas tank is similar to a coffee pot in the sense that there is debris that settles to the bottom of the gas tank. When you run off of the last bit of fuel you run all of the debris through your fuel lines and your fuel filter. You can damage and/or clog your fuel filter by doing this. The debris inside your engine shouldn't affect your engine internally significantly. BUT if your fuel filter gets clogged bad enough it can starve your engine of fuel.

Most cars do have some kind of low fuel warning. Often it is either an alarm or a light in the information center.

As for your range, that really depends on how you are driving and when the notification is set to go off. It should tell you that in the owner's manual.

usually when the fuel is low a warning light is lite on the dash and some other cars plays a sound

when that happens you can run about 45 - 50 miles so that will be about 2 - 3 gallons of fuel left on the tank
