Default What the heck is the ECT button in my Toyota 4runner?

And also, when do I use over-drive and why? My truck did not come with the owner's manual. Thanks!

ECT is for towing. You activate ECT so your tranny doesnt shift into higher gear until higher rpms. You almost always should set an auto transmission to overdrive. It will decide when to use overdrive, which is the highest gear. This will save you gas. You would not use overdrive in special situations like towing or going through mountains.

i think extra cargo torque something like that it keeps it in a lower gear, to help give more power. had a 89 v6 auto with that too.
