The battery is fine. The engine usually clicks when you try to start it but will sometimes sound like it's trying to crank but won't catch, and sometimes the car lurches foreward when it tries to start.

to wizjp- It's a manual and it isn't stuck in gear.

Is it a standard? Could it be stuck in gear?

you might need a new starter or maybe an alternator, bring it to a shop.

That's an awesome car. Sounds like a combination-possibly clutch going bad (lurching) and the alternator.-I'm not a mechanic though.

My hunch would be the starter.

It should not under any circumstances lurch forward when trying to start, so that concerns me.

An internal combustion engine requires three things to start. Fuel, spark, and compression. Remove any one of those components and it won't start. Find out which is missing and then find out why, repair that and it will start. Or call the tow truck and have them take it to your mechanic and let him figure it out.

Make sure the car is in neutral You could possibly have a bad starter solenoid or the Relay located on the left side of the engine compartment may be going out.
