I've had my Prius for almost two years. The up front cost is a little more but, especially the way gas prices are these days, I am making it up now. I get over 46 mpg and the government is giving incentive rebates to new owners based on the fuel-efficiency of the car. The Prius has, by far, the best. I would really suggest you test drive both, though. When I did, I didn't notice enough of a difference between the two to outweigh the fuel-efficiency benefit of the Toyota.

I have a Toyota Prius and I am very happy with it! I drove one day and saw a Honda Civic hybrid and just had to roll the window down and asked about the mpg. Turn to find out, the Honda Civic I saw did not impress me at all with 36mpg. Mine was over 50 mpg. Also with a Honda Civic, you have choices and I would be too afraid to run the risk of getting a non hybrid due to some salesman wanting to keep hybrids. Not very realisticm but it's there. These rising fuel prices would make me go to the Prius because there is only hybrids. No other models of the Prius have non hybrid parts.

The ease of operations for the Prius are awesome! Easy shifting and for those with arthritus, it's much easier than pulling a shifter. All you do is slide the shifter to the position and let go. The computer automatically shifts it to the appropriate gear ie reverse, neutral and drive. Steering is much smoother I can drive with my thumbs.

Honda.

Which Honda Hybrid are you talking about.

Insight or Civic or Accord Hybrid?

The Honda Insight is the most feul efficient and most reliable hybrid car ever made. It was made from 2001-2004.

It got up to 66mpg highway and had a 3 cylinder gas engine.

I would go with Honda anyday. More fun to drive and looks better and more reliable.

Prius all the way.

- Prius uses a simple single-gearset transmission that is far tougher and more reliable than Honda's complex belt-driven CVT transmission.

- Prius has more interior room than a Honda Civic due to the Prius's hatchback design.

Be sure to check the 2009 Volkswagen clean buring diesel Jetta when it comes out. Hybrid economy without the worry of expensive battery replacement in the future. It will be 50 state legal even satisfying those in California on emissions. If I were forced to buy a hybrid, it would probably be the Prius. However, diesel hybrids will be coming out with mileage in the upper 60's

The Pri has a much better drivetrain that lets you drive in electric mode with the gas engine off for pretty decent stretches. It's great to be in a traffic jam and have the engine off for 5 minutes at a time. The Civic is more reliant on the gas engine. I heard that the Civic hy doesn't have much available power. The Prius really moves!

The Prius body layout is also very useful. It hold bikes, furniture, and all kinds of stuff. The dog loves it!

I'm averaging 60 mpg on my highway commute now that the weather's warmer.

Oh, and hybrid battery replacement is a myth....it doesn't need replacing. I'd avoid diesels myself....even the clean ones haven't been able to match the emission standards of gasoline cars, let alone hybrids. I mainly got the Pri for the low emissions....it has both Super Ultra Low and Partial Zero classifications. The Civic Hybrid does as well. That's about as clean as you can get in a fossil fuel vehicle.

I've never heard of the Honda C, but I prefer it? Why? Because the average Prius owner is a rich, self-righteous liberal douche who likes to think they're saving the environment, while really doing the opposite. They get pretty mediocre mileage for being so "technologically advanced" too.

But over either of these 2 PR tools, I prefer a diesel, any diesel. Diesels are the most environmentally friendly out there (not counting non-production specialty cars) because they run on vegetable oil. Anyone filling their diesel with petroleum is doing it wrong.
