i smell gas in my 1988 toyota pickup--no apparent leaks?

Default i smell gas in my 1988 toyota pickup--no apparent leaks?

i did not have the smell until i replaced the carburator

Your probably loading up on gas (float adjustment or stuck, sensor problem) and you have an exhaust leak.

put the old one back on,,,apparantly you caused a leak somewhere... It may be hard to find, because gasoline evaporates very quickly, it is probably leaking onto the hot manifold, and boiling away so quickly, that you never see it. If the floats in the carburator are improperly adjusted, it could be filling too much, and overflowing.
