Default Toyota changing oil question?? 10 pts?

Hi!

I have a 1996 Toyota Avalon that i would like to change the oil for. It is a V6 3.0L Engine. Anyone knows how much oil i should put? I brought 5 quarts.

Also.. When i replaced the spark plugs.. One of them that i removed was soaked in oil.. I dipped a peace of cloth in the hole where the spark plug screws in.. and the cloth was also soaked in engine oil.. I cleaned the hole, and screwed in the new spark plugs.. DO you guys think this is a problem? Th eengine seems to be running flawless.. Could this be due to too much oil in the last oil change?

Thanks!

But i dont have the owners manual!

If you overfilled the added pressure could have forced oil into the cyl. Check the owners manual for capacity, it's prob 4qts.

Your owner's manual should give you the correct fluid capacity for your engine.

The oil in the spark plug hole probably came from a bad gasket. There are orings atop each spark plug hole that are designed to seal it from any oil entering that cavity during engine operation.

Spray some non=flammable brake clean into the hole and check it after a week of operation.

If you are doing an oil change, 4 quarts of oil. If you are just replenishing oil, then you need to put in only 1 quart.

If you create an account with Toyota's Owners' site, you can view your Owner's Manual online: http://www.toyotaownersonline.com/

The correct amount of engine oil to use for a fill is whatever amount takes you up to midway between the full and empty marks on your oil dipstick. (Sometimes the amount listed in the owner's manual may even be off - for example, if you follow the Toyota fill instructions for the Prius, you'll always overfill it...)

You may do better to ask actual owners:

park the car on a level ground, remove the drain plug to drain off as much oil as possible. Replace the oil filter and replace the oilseal before closing the drain plug.

Use your oil stick to guide you. The oil level should not exceeded the max level.

There is a leak in the oil gasket, will be getting worst as time go by. The engine is not affected now.
