Default The Toyota Supra, Questions?

Hello all I was wondering, The 93-98 Mark IV Supras came in both The 2JZGTE (Which is the Twin Turbo I think) and the 2JZGE (Which is the Naturally Aspirated version) True? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Reason I'm asking this is because I plan to buy a new car, A Nice Import Tuner car (Experienced with it), I've been looking at the Supras...they are nice! (A Friend owns one)

I found a really nice Supra, 1 Description that I like is that its M/T for the fact, But from the screen shots I've seen It is not Turbocharged, which I am assuming this is the 2JZGE Engine

What are the major differences between the 2JZGTE and the 2JZGE besides the fact GTE has Turbo and GE Doesn't?

I've seen some Single Turbo complete kits for the 2JZGE, It looks nice, but is it worth it? I am even thinking of cleaning out the 2JZGE and slap a Getrag 6 Speed Gearbox on it. (Opinions?)

My goal on building a Supra is to achieve a pretty good horsepower, yet Street driven able, My first thoughts are Get a Supra, Get a 2JZGTE Engine, and work on it, But its kinda hard to buy 2JZGTE Engines true?

Thx all Add my IM on vandenarsenal, I really would like to talk to some Experienced Supra owners, THX!

1. Yes the twin turbo is the 2JZ-GTE, the N/A one is the 2JZ-GE.

2. Being twin turbo'd the 2JZ-GTE Supras have more power, a higher top speed and better acceleration than the naturally aspirated one, and without the usual cons of a single turbo such as turbo lag and lack of torque in the low range RPMs.

3. A single turbo kit for the GE obviously won't yield the pros of a twin turbo but if you're looking for horsepower I have heard of Supras running twin Garrett turbochargers. If you do buy a single turbo, a smaller one would be more suitable for daily driving, you'll have more boost in the lower RPM ranges and more torque when you need it. As for the gearbox I must be honest I'm not sure on the answer to that.

4. It would probably be cheaper to get a turbo or twin turbo kit for the GE than look for a 2JZ-GTE, and in doing so you'll probably yield more power as well.

The GE and GTE is code. The G is performance head, the T is turbocharged, and the E is electronic fuel injection. Furthermore, the JZ is the engine family and the 2 is the second incarnation of the engine. For instance, there is a 1JZGTE engine in Japan, I think it is 2.4L. Basically, they took the 1JZ block, stroked it and made it a 3.0L, 2JZ. The differences between the 2JZGE and GTE are the turbo, lower compression ratio on the turbo engine, and the turbo engine has oil squirters spraying the piston bottoms for cooling. Do as you please, V8 makes more power, thus I bought a Mustang, and have to say, it really isn't a bad car. It outperforms my RX7 on every aspect.

Engine questions have been answered above.

Overall the cars themselves are great,we looked at buying one a good few years ago but due to having two children the lack of rear room meant it was a car we could not have. But we did get my friend to buy one,and coincidence we have got him to buy another one which he is picking up tomorrow.

I really like the feel of the drivers position in the car and it feels like the driver is in a cockpit.

Iam sure many bits you will know if your friend has one already.

Power wise the TT version will keep gaining power as long as you keep putting money into it,it is really endless. And will only get to a stage of being hard to use as a road car.

The gear box in any variants the manual was the basic model and IE the non turbo version my friend in Japan said that owning the manual at that level meant you had the bottom version.

But you can get a box conversion for an auto, but it is up to you there are loads of fast auto's out there on these and many other cars,i own an auto skyline and driven auto supra's impreza's 3000gt etc etc and driven nothing like may auto's i have driven ,these type of cars are not a sit back and wait yet more of a foot down and hold on,I know my car is rapid and with power button redline changes instantly in fact way faster than i could do manually.

Is it hard getting the TT engine i suppose it depends where you live there are plenty where i live but with the rb26 engines they are expensive.

if you do get the car, go with a big turbo. You will destroy any TT supra out there. One big turbo is more powerfull then two, if built right.
