Default I need an alternative starter motor for a Toyota Avensis?

Looking round the scrap yards, these are very few and far between. So, does anyone know of a suitable replacement? I think peugeot and renault use the same parts at times, so wondering if Toyota do the same? Its a rear mounted starter on a 1998 R plated 1.8.

Any ideas?

Go to your local motor spares place - you may be pleasantly surprised at the price of a new one.

The part number is Lucas LRT00214, or the following cross ref numbers;

0001107030

0001107075

228000-0900

228000-0901

28100-02040

28100-02080

28100-16180

28100-16180-84

It's only used in the Avensis 1.6 & 1.8 97-00 AT220/221 engine,

Carina E 1.6 & 1.8 92-98 with the AT190/191 engines,

and the Celica 1.8i 16v 94-99 AT200 engine.

Normally there are corner shops who just recondition starters and alternators, hardly they take half an hour to 45 mins and change the faulty parts and supply with 6 months guarantee. Charges around £40 to £45. I think it is safe rather than buying a replacement which is of course expensive from the spare parts shop.
