Most 2nd gens didn't have power steering. You'll usually find it on Turbo's and rarely on N/A's.
1. With very little weight on the front of the car and the rack and pinion ratio not really extreme/short why do you need the extra parasitic drag on the engine from a pump?
2. The lack of hydraulic fluid absorbing/dulling the road feel gives a better "connection" to the road and the over all driving experience. It's better for a spirited driver.
I don't know for sure but that's what I think. Either way i hope you pick one up, its a very fun car. Good luck with your car search.
