First start with the exhaust, remove the cat and straight pipe it all the way back into a decent muffler. Then start with the intake, get a nice cone filter and make sure the pipe is as straight as possible. Is it a manual trans? If so get a decent clutch put in, stage 2, those can handle burnouts and rough launches. Get some decent rubber put on, performance tires will make it handle and launch A LOT better. They're also a lot more stable at high speeds. If you want to make it really fast you could put a turbo with an inter-cooler in... make sure to take it to a good shop though, the compression has to be just right. But start with the exhaust and intake, that will free up a lot of power.
