The regular Toyota factory warranty is 5 years-60,000 miles. Certification extends that to 8 years-100000 miles from the date of first use of the original owner. First, did the car run out or low on oil? Then, without maintenance records the dealer can say it was neglected. If the car still has oil in it, it is speculation on their part and they cannot prove neglect. They cannot force you to do oil changes at the dealer but you are responsible to make sure it does not run low. Tow it out of there (put oil in it) and take it to another dealer if they won't fix it. Good maintenance records are important if you have a warranty and at a good Toyota dealer, the cost of their oil changes are competitive with Jiffy Lube. Those receipts are golden and recorded at the dealer if you should lose yours. For that reason it is worthwhile to have oil changes done at an authorized dealer for warranty purposes. Good Luck--T&T
