In my experience, it is not common for those components to have issues as early as what you have had, however, they are mechanical systems that are built by people and as such will eventually wear out if nothing else over time. There are averages (which in the case of those two components in my experience are longer that what you experienced) but that means that some last longer than the average and some less long. It may just be that on your particular Camry those particular components wore out on the shorter end of average.
It does not necessarily mean that there is something overall wrong with the car or that there is anything inherently wrong with those components overall in Camry's in general.
