why is the early 90's st model celica 400lbs lighter than the other models?

Default why is the early 90's st model celica 400lbs lighter than the other models?
is the difference in the weights of the engines THAT much or is it transmission too, or ?















im talking same years-90-92

it will be the whole car...back in the early 90's there would have been built differently,possibly thicker metal,but today they can use thinner metal and still have the same if not better structural strength........plus fuel was a lot cheeper then so they didnt really have to ''lighten a car'' like they do with todays fuel prices......thats what i recon anyways.

The reason is that the ST is the base model-which means less standard equipment. Also, the ST of that vintage used the the same 1.6 liter engine and transmission as the Toyota Corolla of the same vintage, whereas the GT/GT-S used the same 2.2 liter engine and transmission as the larger Camry as well as having more standard equipment. Those differences may not sound like much but it does make 4000 lbs worth of difference between the models.
