It comes down to what is the weight of the 5th wheel and what is the allowable towed weight for the truck. And I don't mean the manufacturers advertised weight for the 5th wheel. You should weigh it as it's loaded for travel. Additionally you need to look at the Gross Combined Weight Rating for the pickup. That is the weight of the truck, loaded for travel, plus the weight of the 5th wheel, loaded for travel. You want to make sure that you don't exceed either the Gross Allowable Towed or the Gross Allowable Combined. In fact I prefer to try staying around 10 % below either one for a safety factor.
