My 1st thought is to get a mechanic you trust. You can take your Corolla to another shop for second opinion. The Strut assembly has replaced what used to be just a shock replacement. But times change. If your car has some rattling or cracking noises coming from above your tire, you could need struts, the cracking noises could also be a c/v axle, tie end rod or control arm, but the noise would sound lower. A lot goes on in the front end of your Corolla. But in the end you must trust your mechanic or get a 2nd opinion. bs
