You realize there is more than one Hummer model ( H1, H2 and H3 ) with different engines. What do you also define as a "normal car"? This question cannot be answered as asked.

The Hummer uses 2x as much as the Prius because the Prius is a hybrid. The Prius uses half as much as a normal car because again, it is a hybrid.

The Hummer uses more than a normal car because of it's large size.

Confusing? Yes. But, you would need more specifics for a more specific answer. By including how far each car travels of a set period and by knowing how much petrol each started with would help determine a better answer.

It's a trick question really. No one can deny the Hummer drinks gas like a fish.

Hummer 14 mpg city; 18 mpg highway; 15 mpg average

Prius 48 mpg city; 45 highway, 46 mpg average

What average car would you want to compare the Prius to?

Yaris 29/36 mpg

VW Rabbit 21/30 mpg

Chevy Cobalt 25/34 mpg

But these are government ratings, which are questionable. Why? Because according to them my RAV only gets 25 mpg highway and I've been getting 27 mpg.

BTW hybrids always get poorer gas mileage on the highway than in the city. Hybrids are pretty much a car for a city dweller, and do not benefit some one that lives in a rural area.
