How to operate Toyota Camry 2009 XLE Automatic Gear Shift?

Hello there, i have a Toyota Camry XLE that has an automatic transmission. However the gear shift is something to question? This car does have a V6 engine installed and i have used gear shifts before, but how do you operate this one?

I drove off the lot knowing how to put in drive, but my real question was how do you downshift, sorry for the confusion...=)

You put the main gear selector in the last bottom position. It should then be inbetween the + and -. To shift up just push the selector up and let it automatically return to center. To shift down just push it down and let it automatically return to center. To exit manual control just move it over to the right.

if you shift it to drive it will drive like a normal automatic but if you want you can shift manually similar to a straight stick

well how did you drive it if you dont know how to operate it

you have auto-manual

that means you can put it in drive and just drive like a normal automatic

or shift it yourself, using the + and - signs

you hit the shifter up to upshift

and down to downshift

you own this car? the shifter operates just like a regular tranny shifter does, except you can manually shift it also. that is what the S-D is. you can upshift and downshift with this. you may want to have someone demonstrate this to you. you probably should have had the dealer show you how this works before you bought it, though.

When you put into S mode, just nudge it up if you want to up shift, down if you want to down shift. My MX-5 Miata has that, not that hard to use.
