Whats causing a loud tapping noise in the engine?

Default Whats causing a loud tapping noise in the engine?
I have a 96 toyota camry 4cyl also a 2000 toyota corolla ce 4cyl. The camry is super loud, it sounds like the piston broke off from the con rod and the con rod is hitting the sides of the cylinder. It is not the lifters, checked them. And now my corolla is starting to make this noise. Any one know? Oh and i am not losing any power... and its not knocking... so idk what it is... i am stumped

check the timing belts they both have them and can really damage the motor if they pop

probably threw a rod and need rebuil or engine.

check the valves and timing chain
