I bought car and it passed smog no problem. Then 2 days later the check engine light came on. Mechanic says the code is for egr valve needs replacement. I found that really wierd since it just passed, but he says I got lucky. I figure God took pity and let it pass
So I figure oh well just drive it as is. Well a friend mentioned that if the check engine were to come on for something else, I'd never know since it's on for egr valve! I found those are very pricey, even on ebay over $140.00. Found a wrecked 1992 Toyota Camry for $50 as is with back dmv fees. So I figure I'd get it and then have junkyard take it for free.(I checked, they will pick up for free)..but I need to know if the 92 egr valve will work for a 90? Anybody know for sure? Of course dealer is telling me never ever do something like that, but I figure since they want $240 for it, of course they will try to say don't do it.
oh and one other quick question. Their is a dash light for "lights"..it stays on no matter if lights are on or not. I cannot find anything in the manual about it, and of course mechanic wants 1 hour labor to look at it. Does anybody know about this year if that's normal?
Just in case anyone else like 12plze doesn't bother to read all of description, let me clarify, I DID GO TO MECHANIC, he told me check engine light was on due to EGR valve.
