Default i have a 1991 toyota 4 runner v6. how can i prevent a blown head gasget?
everyone tells me it is a crap car, but it is my first and so far I love it. the v6's are known to blow head gassgets and that would not be all that great. so how could i prevent it? or do i have to just wait till it happens to fix it?

well those motors are prone to it...if you want to avoid it...try looking for the 3.4 litter engine from the 95 up 4runners..they dont have that problem...and youll also get more power from it too...

Well, re-torquing the head(s) is how you'd prevent this on the Toyota 7M and 2JZ's.

Those old V6's are dogs! Check with your local dealer and see if the gasket/head recall has been done. I think it's called the Vo6, don't quote me on name. There is an updated design I believe. There is some out of pocket expenses to you but a hell of a lot cheaper than replacing them or more!















Other than that, besides replacing engine, keep up on maintenance and only try and use a professional you trust with your vehicle(s).

Yes they blow head gaskets. No, there is nothing you can do to prevent it. The good news is that by now I would be pretty sure the gaskets have been replaced already, hopefully by better ones. Just do proper maintenance like on any other car. You can have your dealer check to see if SSC V06 has been done but it probably has.

it`s not a 'crap car' really, I used to like mine a lot and never blew it`s gasket or 'weeped' at all! If you maintain properly, use decent coolant and oil, it could last for years!
