I agree with Mike completely.
When the key becomes difficult to remove it is warning you of impending failure. A woman I know had a similar problem with a Mustang. She waited too long and it became my job to correct the problem. Believe me it is far far far far easier to correct the problem when the key still works albeit not too well. I had to physically force the cylinder out of the car. The lock is designed to resist such force. In other words there is a high likelihood that the steering column will be damaged when you try to force the lock. I highly recommend you get this repaired sooner rather than "too" later.
