Personally it sounds like an adjustment might be required but I'd take it into a garage that either specializes in transmission work and might be a small town family owned shop that is quite familiar with that make of vehicle. Also personally I'd go over it head to toe all the brakes , spark plugs , spark-plug wires, ignition system, charging system , all grounds, gas lines , brake lines , clutch systems , transmission fluids and filters, tires , rims, air pressure , balancing , 4 wheel alignment, gas filters, air filter, oil, coolant system, rad , hoses and all clamps, vac lines, check the flooring on it underneath the vehicle , exhaust system, brake system, emg brake system, etc.
I'd recommend probably having a new clutch put in so you know you're starting off with a solid clutch system but it all depends on if it's just a mere adjustment or something more on it and how worn it is at the present time too.I don't recommend flushing the transmission on those due to their age and the possible problems that can develop on those , just change the transmission fluid and filter on it and be sure to use the proper factory recommended parts and fluids when doing so.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way it's not a bad over all vehicle if it's kept up it can out last most vehicles and it not be a bad idea if you like to learn or like to fix cars etc that you buy yourself a true service manual either from the dealerships or via a speciality book stores that sells all types of service manuals for vehicles that range in places but yours might be 150 bucks or more.
