Use a compression gauge,check each cylinder one at a time.they should all be close in reading.If that is o.k. then check to see if you have spark,for this I usually use a timing light on each plug wire,if you don't have one then remove the plug and hook up plug wire , make sure the plug is grounded have someone turn it over and watch for spark.At this point if everything checks out,My guess would be it jumped time or timing belt broke.
