Default how can i replace the water pump of toyota sienna 2008?

i want to buy this car from a friend but the water pump must be changed and i want to ask if it has a qualified air condition for hot weather and whether it has one or two electrical cooling radiator fan cause my chevrolet astro does not have a qualified AC in summer, thanks

Take it to the dealer and they will fix it it's under warranty.

The water pump is dreiven by the timing belt. You need to take it somewhere, it is going to cost around $700 for the repair. It is labor intesive. It takes around 3 - 4 hours if you have the tools and know what your doing. If you screw up putting the timing belt back on wrong you will ruin the engine the first time you start it. Leave repairs such as this to people who are trained in them.

This water pump is easily changed once you gain access to it.















It does not involve removing the timing belt, only releasing the tension on it.















Once you release the timing's belt tensioner the water pump can be removed and a new one replaced.































It is not too ddifficulta job and the engine's ttimingis not changed.

First off that water pump shouldnt be bad at all its an 08. But things happen. Well from my time with my babies(toyotas) they are simple but vans are alot different. I know its just a waterpump but my thought is take it to a shop and have it done cuz if sumthing goes wrong your covered by the shop that did the repair. As far as the a/c goes it should be cold as hell. But run the car and try the a/c but keep an EYE on the temp so you dont blow a motor or head gasket. I myself buy nothing but toyotas.Well good luck with your choose either way you go.

The best thing to do for any used car purchase is to spend the $100 and have a buyers inspection done at a dealer. Tell the service writer your concerns. They will look at the vehicle to see what is wrong, what is needed, if it is warrantable or what it will cost. Ask him about the air conditioning and to show you- that is his job. Do this Before you buy it!















This way you can make a smart decision and avoid any expensive or unpleasant surprises later. This is money well spent. Good Luck T&T

Unless things have drastically changed since 2000 to 2008, then all of this is wrong. You do have to take off the timing belt, and the camshaft pulleys to get to the water pump. You have to take off the crankshaft pulley as well, and all of this is a MUTHER. The water pump is behind the rear cover for the timing belt, and to get to it the timing chain, pulleys and a lot more have to be taken off. I know, because I just replaced a water pump for a 2000 Sienna. Without the special tools, it is a real monster. I had to pull off the valve cover and use a wrench on the camshaft to release the bolts on the camshaft pulleys. It required a big 1/2 break-over and a metal fence post as extra leverage. These bolts are notorious for being viciously tight. Do a search on the internet for yourself to find out. I did this job myself to save the $900 they wanted to do it, but it was a demanding job, trust me.

As I said, unless things have changed drastically between 2000 and 2008, this job is a monster.

It's way cheaper if you replace it yourself since it would only cost you $150 for the parts. You'll shed $350 if you take it to a shop. However you would really need the proper tools to do it. I replaced a water pump last week,actually it was my first time to do it. It took me 4 hours to do it, it drained me.

4 hours? Wow, hats off to you. I spent about 16 hours working on it.

I had to take off the right front tire, windshield wipers and three cowls, the engine moving control bar with it's brackets and mounting bracket, Both engine belts have to some off, which means getting the power steering pump loose, and the alternator loose, and then the alternator bracket. I had to remove all spark plugs, which is a MUTHER. Then the crankshaft pulley had to come off, the timing belt cover, both camshaft pulleys - which meant taking off the valve cover so you can hold it with a wrench - the timing belt, and the timing belt tensioner and a bolt broke which I had to drill and pull out with a screw extractor. Then the third timing belt cover with all it's collars, bushings and gaskets to FINALLY get to the water pump.

The Haynes book actually said to take off the windshield wiper reservoir and the coolant reservoir, which I didn't do because... why?

It was a monster job and I was worried about the crankshaft shifting position when I pulled off the pulley, even though I market it with a silver marker. Getting the timing belt back on was no picnic either.

The bolts to the camshaft pulleys and the crankshaft pulley were tighter than any bolt I've ever encountered in my life. My 1/2" air impact wrench wouldn't dent them. I had to use a 1/2 breakover with a metal fence pipe as additional leverage.

I'm amazed you did this job in 4 hours, as the dealership quotes 3-4 hours to do it, and they do it all the time and have all the special tools. You're awesome.
