2007 Highlander hybrid 30K servicing?

The dealer was quoting $450 and he does not do much except inspect a bunch of

stuff; I got a quote for $200 from another certified repair shop.

(i)Can I get the servicing done at a place other than a dealer or will my

warranty be nullified if I do that?

(ii) is there anything i need to worry about when i go to a non dealer because

this is a hybrid?

I've got a 2006 HiHy and my mechanic told me that it doesn't require any specific service @ 30K. He checked the trans fluid & every drive component & only had to do the standard oil change.

I haven't taken my truck to the dealer since my free oil changes were used up & it runs beautifully. I use Mobile1 & change it every 6K & I average 29mpg in the Summer & 26mpg in the Winter. When I try, I've been able to average 33mpg for the whole tank. There's been no noise or mechanical problems.

Your warranty will not be voided if it's serviced outside the dealer.

The only thing your car needs is to have the oil changed, the tires rotated, maybe balanced if that has never been done, and replace the cabin and air filters. $450 sounds awfully high for that! We do not charge for checks with a service. You can get the service done anywhere, save the receipts.

I would shop other dealers as $450 sounds a bit steeper than what we charge. You can get servicing done elsewhere but there are other benefits to going to a dealer. One is record keeping. The dealership will maintain your service records and if you are a loyal customer they will sometimes show extra consideration on warranty items, sometimes beyond the normal period. They want your repeat business. If you have been a good customer of theirs they will sometimes give you extra consideration. Some 06-07 Highlanders have a recall on the power steering rack for replacement. The aftermarket shop doesn't care about these things and can't honor the recalls. The dealer can chk the VIN application to see if it is an affected vehicle and take care of the repair at no cost to you. Some things to think about. Good Luck--T&T
