Problem with my rav4?

my rav4 was pinking and when it was doing this I was getting excess smoke from the exhaust. Then it stopped as if by magic. I noticed that the oil dipstick had popped out slightly as if there was a build up of pressure in the engine that had caused it to pop out. So i put the dipstick back in and the pinking started again, so I took it out and the pinking stopped. Any idea what could be causing this build up of pressure, breather system maybe?

Try replacing the PCV Valve on it which allows the engine to breath. Try to always tell us what year, make, model and engine size to help us.

Yes, blocked crankcase breather or PCV valve would seem a likely culprit.

Replacing the pcv may help and is an easy and cheap experiment. But it may be because it has bad rings causing excessive blowby and crankcase pressure. The pressure is what causes the dipstick to push out and burn excessive blue smoke. If the pcv does not fix it, more testing may be required such as a a leakdown test with a special tool that measures the percentage of cylinder leakdown. If the problem is rings, then it is either time for major engine work or possibly a new vehicle. Your car is telling you. Good Luck--T&T

Replace the PCV valve it is easy to do and its cheap.
