Assuming you're looking at a Sequoia with the 5.7L and 4wd, they're virtually identical on gas mileage. They have the same engine and transmission (not sure on the transfer case). The Sequoia is quite a bit bigger, but only weighs 300 pounds more.
In the real world, individual driving style with either one will account for more difference in actual fuel consumption than mechanical differences.
I'm a die-hard fan of Land Cruisers. I own -umm- a few... But $20K is a big price difference to get past. The fact that the Sequoia is built in the US is also a consideration for a lot of people.
Instead of buying a Land Cruiser for $65K, why not get a Sequoia for $45K, get a nice commuter car, and have some change left for gas?
