Yes, it should not be black. The oil will never be perfect in a older car, but it should not be black in color. The oil should be changed at least every 3000 miles. Keep that in mind because if you take care of your toyota it will last over 300K. Good luck!

Yes you should change your transmission oil. Transmission oil should be red in color, and not black. Black would means its really dirty. I change my transmission oil almost as much as I change my motor oil. I change my motor oil every 3-4k mile and my transmission oil every 5-8k to maintain a good transmission. I also add transmission conditioner for the clutch in the transmission.

Not to worry unless it smells smoky - or "burnt". trans oil darkens w/ normal wear elements off of the clutch material. Check your service supplement manual for the recommended change interval. it is usually around 100,000 miles. considering you are 7 years old - if it has not been changed - it is probably time.

yes change it! automatic transmission oil should be red. if its black and/or smells burnt, that means its time to change the oil and the filter in the transmission. if you ignore it, it will wreck your transmission and you'll have to rebuild it which will cost a lot more than simply changing your fluid.
