Default I drive a celica 2000 automatic toyota. On the driving stick there is a buttom on its side.
what is is? So they said something is wronge with my transimission casue it isn't shifting right. But when i drive and press that button the car shifts but if i press it two times it never shifts.. I just discovered that like yesterday I bought the car from strangers. cause the car was automatic i never thought of asking about it. Now i relize there might be some purpose for it. can anyone help !

It's the overdrive gear. You want it to be 'on' when driving for the highway to save gas.































It's like you have a 4spd transmission and that button is the 5th gear.































If you have it off while driving on the highway you'll feel the engine revving higher, because you turned off the 5th gear and now running on the 4th gear.

Always have the overdrive ON except if you were descending steep hills or mountains and you need the transmission to offer some braking power (that way you avoid putting too much pressure on the brake pads). When we drove up and over the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, we put the Overdrive on OFF on the way down. When you pressed the button twice, the transmission went from ON to OFF to ON again, that's all.
