Hello,















I'm very close to buying either a leftover '09, or a '10 Camry. I've suddenly found some things on the 'Net I don't like. Is there still problems w/the V6, & 6 speed tranny? I understand the snap-ring issue was fixed. What about the surging/hesitation problem w/the tranny, though? Consumer Reports no longer recommends the V6 Camry. Why/still? What about the 4cyl.? Knowledgeable advice on these questions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not quite sure about the tranny issues you are referring to. However we purchased a Lexus ES 350 last year. The engine in our Lexus is very similar to the V6 Camry engine. We've owned the car for almost a year with about 10k miles and have had no problems.































The transmission is very smooth and responsive. What I have noticed is that the engine does conform to your driving habits. If you have a lead foot the transmission will downshift with the littlest of input.































However if you have a light foot the transmission is in gas saver mode and will hold the higher gear for a longer amount of time. All you have to do is jam the pedal down harder and the transmission will downshift.































Before my ES I owned a 2005 Camry XLE V6 that had a transmission that responded the same way. I was more of a lead foot then so the tranny was extremely responsive.































Toyota/Lexus incorporates VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing With Intelligence) in all of their newer engines. This feature is what allows the engine to learn and conform to your driving habits.

There were some transmission issues with the very first '07 6 cylinder Camrys but they have been long resolved. There were also some drivablility complaints which new software fixed. An '09 or '10 will have no problems. The 6 is an amazing engine for the combination of power and economy it produces. The '10 Camry has a new 4 that is pretty lively also but it does not run like the 6.
