Default Question on my 94' Celica GT??
There is a little button on the side of the shift stick thing... when I press it, a light on the dash board says " O/D OFF" ... when I press it again.. that light disappears. I'm assuming it's on. What does that mean?? And what effect does it have on my car??? I've noticed when it's on... the RPMs go down...

O/D is overdrive.Pressing the button turns the overdrive off, which can be useful for driving in hilly areas. Generally, it's best to leave the O/D on, it'll get you better fuel mileage and the transmission will shift down if it needs to on its own.

It's overdrive. It's basically like final drive gear. Yet most people think it's for hilly inclines & hauling which is not true. It conserves fuel when driving at higher speeds by reducing the RPM's.

That's the overdrive button. It is like 5th gear. If your car gets sluggish uphill, push it to the off position and the car will downshift into 4th gear with more power.































Then when your cruising on the highway, push it 'till it's on and it will pop into 5th gear and make the car drive faster and smoother. I also use mine as a downshifter to pass people as it gives a boost of extra power when taken out of 5th gear to zoom around the other cars. Try it on some freeway sometime. It is fun, kinda like a racecar shift! enjoy!
