its called anti lock braking system which is controlled by the abs control module.
some of the later cars also come with something called as brake assists, which is also controlled by this module. it only operates when the driver hits on the brake pedal suddenly to avoid obstruction. the module calculates the time from when the accelerator is released and brake is hit and deploys more fluid power to the brakes for faster and safer stop
year 2000 Toyota's should have abs in it as i have a 1996 toyota supercustom hiace which has a abs in it.
