Does a 2005 Toyota Corola have a timing belt or a timing chain?

The car is approaching 100K, and I was considering having the timing belt replaced. Keep getting coupons for it in the mail from the dealer, but I was told it has a timing chain. Which is it? I don't really know!

2003 to 2008 toyota corolla's have timing chain.

I believe it is front wheel drive and it has timing belt. You can check it yourself, by looking at the engine where the belts are. If you see the housing is plastic then it is timing belt. The only timing chain engine would be the 4 cylinder rear wheel drive pickup truck.

The 2005 Toyota Corolla 1.8 DOHC has a timing chain, and costs around $70 for the chain itself (in the US).

your corolla has a timing chain there is no service interval for the chain, the only reason it would need replaced is if your having a problem which it doesn't sound like you are so i wouldn't worry about it those are good engines never had to replace a chain on one of those

In the US, the 1998-2009 Toyota Corolla has a timing chain. There is no prescribed replacement interval for a timing chain.

Your dealer is just sending out a generic mailer to get you into the service department - it is not specific to your vehicle. Besides, maybe you have another car, or know someone who does, that could use a timing belt replacement.
