In terms of numbers sold, there hasn't been any hybrid car that came anywhere close to the 1.2 million Prius that Toyota has sold worldwide since its introduction in 1997.
Honda has sold close to 200,000 Civic Hybrids worldwide, which is the next best-selling hybrid.
In terms of fuel economy, only the first-generation 2-seater Honda Insight had better MPGs than the Prius, but it is much smaller (the 1st-gen Prius is a compact sedan that seats 4, 2nd and 3rd gen are hatchbacks that seat 5). The tiny 2-seater configuration is why the 1st-generation Insight never sold well-- It was not a family car.
The redesigned 5-seat 2nd-gen 2010 Insight is much bigger and heavier than the 1st-gen Insight, and consequently has significantly lower fuel economy than the Prius at 41MPG combined.
