1996 Toyota Tacoma V6 Starter just clicks?

Sometimes when I try to start, it just clicks and doesn't start. The battery has been replaced, The ground has been checked. The terminals are clean, The starter relay has been replaced, and the starter and solenoid has been bench checked.

I thank everyone for answers. First, the points were bad, I fixed those, & then the motor went bad. So I bought a new starter, and now it works.

clicking usually means the starter is going bad, check with a mechanic. good luck.

it's the starter, replace it. Just because it worked on the bench doesn't mean much. a bench test doesn't put it under a load or heat it up like the engine does.

The contacts inside the starter are bad you need a new starter.

Just replace the contacts aka bushings inside the starter. Cost about $10 at the dealership. Remeber, use OEM. Don't waste your money on a new starter. They'll take your core and rebuild the starter and resell it as recondition.

the brass contacts in the solenoid part of the starter are worn out this is pretty common on toyota starters, probably cost about $20 for the parts and 2 hours labor depending on the shop, a lot cheaper than buying a new starter
