What is the difference between the headrests for different generations? Would a first or second generation headrest be compatible with a 3rd generation Toyota 4runner?

Highly unlikely. I'm pretty sure there will be minor differences in the hole spacing, etc.































Plus it would look very strange because it wouldn't match the rest of the Car.

Of course the part number is going to be different. You're talking a difference of like 10-15 years. The Part Number can be different between different trim levels.































Also, don't forget the mechanism that locks the headrest into place is probally different as they found better ways to do it.































The only way to know for sure is to try putting it in. DO NOT FORCE IT you can easily get it stuck.

I would find a place on the web that sells headrests for Toyota's and put in the diiferent years you're interested in. If the part number for both years comes up the same, then you've got a match.































If it doesn't, then there is something different. Trouble will be figuring out what is different and if it is significant (e.g. could be the spacing between the supporting rods or could be the shape of the headrest).
