Engine braking on 2010 Corolla (3-shifting position)?

Default Engine braking on 2010 Corolla (3-shifting position)?
Will it affect my new car at all if I drove the first 100 miles within a month using 3 instead of D by accident? (Both are in the same row.) I did not notice any difference in driving with either. Also, what exactly is engine braking and what does it do to the car?

There should have been no damage to the car/transmission. Engine braking is when the engine uses the RPM's to "create" a drag on the transmission. It helps slow the car down without using the brakes. The only damage that would have been done with driving in 3 instead of OD would be poor fuel economy
