1996 Toyota Camry with weak catalytic converter and moving to California, how to fix?

Default 1996 Toyota Camry with weak catalytic converter and moving to California, how to fix?
I am moving to California from Rhode Island in a few weeks and I am having my car shipped out. Right now the car runs great but the check engine light is on and the mechanic told me is has a weak catalytic converter. If I decide to sell my car or register it in California I will need to get this fixed.































I have been looking at catalytic converters online and notice that there are 49 state legal and 50 state legal (the 50 state legal work in California). If I replace my catalytic converter with a stock one which would be 49 state legal will my car pass inspection in California assuming that the catalytic converter is working properly even though its not the 50 state legal one? I read that the law was recently passed regarding this. And also that these aftermarket converters can cause problems with the OBDII systems.

I've never had any problems with aftermarket cats .Better Ck with Ca. to see what will pass their emissions test before replacing.

if you are keeping the car just buy it from toyota cuse i have had many problems with non oem converters

I have your model Camry. To pass inspection make sure the car is tuned up, good spark plugs, distributor, new oil, etc.































This model Camry was detuned to make 5 less horsepower than previous models to meet air pollution standards.































Get a factory Cat. And you wont have to worry. Good Aftermarket Cats should be 50 state legal.































Also replace your oxygen sensors there are two of them...that maybe what is causing the light to go on...
