cruise control question on 2005 Corolla?

Default cruise control question on 2005 Corolla?
today when i had cruise control on on the freeway, i was going up a hill and it kicked the rpm up to 4000, but then long after the hill had been passed and the road was flat, it still had it at 4000 rpm and didn't go back to normal till i turned it off. why would it have done that? i'm hoping i made the right choice in buying a toyota...

that car will last forever our cars down shift when going down hill i know i hate it to but sometimes it takes a while to shift back up once it gets flat again
