Does Corolla and Matrix have same engine?















i have an 06 corolla and my friend has a 05 Matrix XR( not XRS just XR).. he said his matrix has more horsepower, but I told him they both have same engines..































So who is right?

The Matrix S and above put out 158hp at 6,000 rpm's The Matrix "XR" isn't listed on the Toyota website, so I'm not sure where that's coming from. The Matrix can either have a 132hp or the upgraded 158hp engine. It depends on what model he has. Go to Toyota.com and do a simple comparison. It took me 3 minutes.

You are right. Not only are the engines the same, the whole drivetrain is.

The toyota corolla and matrix are the same thing, except matrix would offer one bigger engine from the camry. Suspensions, handling, drivetrain, everything in matrix and corolla are the same.

Both the 06 Corolla & 05 Matrix XR have the 1.8L, 1ZZ-FE engine, actually the same exact engine with the same power, 130 hp































the 1ZZ-FE found in the 2000+ Celica GT & MR2-Spyder made more power, 140 hp.































The 1998-2002 Corolla 1ZZ-FE made less power, iirc 125 hp

Same engine, drivetrain, etc. That's why the recent recall applied to Corrolla and Matrixes. The weight and styling of the particular body is all that sets them apart.
