Default Just bought 2008 Corolla idles at 1800 RPM when started- Is this normal?
I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla LE that I just bought in March. Sometimes, not always, but a majority of the time when I start my car it idles at 1800 RPM and is very loud. But then after at least a full minute or two of that, it quiets down to about 700/800 RPM. If I start my car again shortly after I parked it, it will not idle that high.































Should I take it to be checked out and would it be covered under warranty if there is something wrong? It's done that since I bought it but my dad refused to let me take it to a shop to get checked before I bought it because he said my car is under warranty so no need to get it checked before I buy. I'm just under 30k miles.

It probably does that so the engine can get to the optimum temperature quickly, and after it's at the optimum operating temperature, the RPM goes down to the 'real' idling speed.

Completely normal for this to happen until engine gets to normal operating Temperature. That is the way it is designed.

yes this is normal, the engine's quickly trying to warm up before it pushes itself for a long run. No you don't really need to get it checked, all cars do that.
