There are a few things that you can do to make your car faster, the most economic and efficacious of which is to mount an aftermarket air intake. The purpose of the aftermarket intake is to allow greater and more direct airflow into the engine, thereby more efficiently cooling and powering the engine.
The cooler the air you pump into the engine, the more efficient the engine is, since it doesn't generate as much heat, and therefore more of that energy is transferred to the drive train, rather than being converted into heat.
Additionally, hot air is more dense and therefore takes up more space than cool air. Cool air can more easily pass through your air intake filter and therefore a greater amount of air reaches your engine in the same amount of time. This is pretty much literally how your engine breathes. Consider going for a run in the heat of summer vs. the beginning of fall: in the summer time you will probably get very hot very fast and not run as fast, compared to fall when you have cooler air, which is easier to breathe and will keep you from getting quite as hot as quickly.
