you cant,the engine light will stay on if it starts,just get a new one,if that's your problem,ive worked at the toyota dealership for 6 years and never replaced one on any toyota as of yet,what code did you get?of course theres always a first time
can you: yes. you need to splice a circuit into the harness that mimics the output of the sensor.
should you: absolutely not. proper functionality of the knock sensor allows the computer to alter ignition timing preventing damage to your engine. if the sensor is fine and your engine is knocking more than the computer can compensate for, then you need to figure out what is causing premature detonation. try switching to a higher octane fuel. high octane fuel is less prone to ignite under pressure in the absence of a spark.
