It was a niche vehicle. Most 2-door cars don't sell well. Americans eat up trucks, SUVs, and 4-door sedans, so it's not as profitable to make a low volume car. The Supra competed directly against other cars like the Mustang and the Corvette, which are available in two body styles, and offered very advanced engines. Around the time the Supra was dropped, Ford was unleashing the Mustang Cobra R that had a 32 valve DOHC V8 that made 385 hp. The Chevrolet Corvette was available with sodium filled valves and magnetorheological shocks. It would've taken too much money to make the Supra competitive.
