Toyota pick up takes a little while starting when i turn the key, what could it be?

Default Toyota pick up takes a little while starting when i turn the key, what could it be?
Its a 1993 toyota pickup with a 22r-e engine. It only seems to happen on a cold start. All before it just sounded like it was struggling to start, cranked for a few seconds and started. But today when i left work i kept holding it for about 10 seconds or so and nothing. Finally after trying a fourth or fifth time it finally started up. What do you think it could be?















Im a young toyota technician and know how to fix my cars but im not the best on diagnosing these older trucks so well because im not used to working on them so much. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Its probably dirty fuel injectors, bad spark or bad engine timing. My dads F-150 sometimes does this to and its the same year as yours. Take your battery to a auto parts shop and they can test it usually for free. Try some Z-max or lucas fuel treatment . Oh and don't crank your engine too long because you can burn up your starter, solenoid, and a few hundred bucks from your wallet

One thing to check is a slight leak in the fuel system causing fuel to leak back out of the fuel rail. a slight odour of gas may be present.

i'm assuming you've checked the compression, timing and the setting on the VAFM - the other thing that could be hurting you are the spark plugs. if you are using bosch, go back to the densos (or even NGK), for some reason the bosch's don't do well in these motors.
