Everything about the Celica is expensive. It is a sports car, and a good one, but you need the dealer to nail down specific recommended repairs and costs. A new engine isn't the total repair. Taking out the old one takes time- you pay for that. Putting in the new engine takes time- you pay for that. I'm guessing the labor to be $1000 $1500. What do they charge for a new engine? Some parts will need replacing- you want to replace items that removing the engine gives access to- the clutch, engine mounts, hoses and belts, and maybe more stuff. For all that, you don't want to wind up with a rattle trap, so doing the job right is a must. How's the radiator? That's a major part of the cooling system and you can add a few hundred bucks for that, plus - oh well, lunch- who knows. What's the whole car worth- $7000-$10,000. You might get a break on a used engine imported from Japan, that has low miles and a guarantee.
You're asking for advice because, I guess, you'd like to fix the car. You can do it if you want to pay the cost. Take some time to nail down the whole expense of having it done. If the only damage is a cracked cylinder head, though, Your repairs may come to a lot less than replacing the whole engine. The shop can't tell without taking off the head (about $1500 job) and examinig it.
