Your truck starting after pumping the gas was coincidental. It actually had nothing to do with it. The starter contacts (inside the solenoid) have gone bad, just about the only thing that goes wrong with those starters. The starter can be removed and contacts replaced. If your local dealer does not do that repair, a local starter or generator repair shop likely will. The repair will be cheaper than a new starter and just as effective.
