Both the 1.8 liter and 2.4 liter engines are good engines that will last you a long time, provided you do regular maintenance. Change the oil once every 5K miles, change the air filter once every year and get tune-ups once every 80-100K miles and the car will take care of you. I have a 2002 Toyota Camry with a 2.4 liter engine that has 107K trouble-free miles on it. I don't believe all of the complaints and issues about Toyota cars that I have read in forums. I find it hard to believe that SO many people had issues with new Toyotas. Not every person knows how to take care of a car, let alone spell correctly nor report all the facts behind the issue that they claim exists with their car. I know Toyotas are not perfect; I didn't buy my Toyota for anything other than the fact that I got a good deal on it, and because it was maintained well by the previous owner. My 2002 Toyota Camry is in all seriousness THE most reliable car I have ever owned, and I have owned GM, Hyundai and Honda cars in the past.
